No. 16/17 SB Faces Texas in Midweek Matchup
April 16, 2018

STORY LINES
• Baylor will take the short drive down I-35 to Austin, facing Texas for a single-game in the annual split series with the Longhorns on Tuesday, April 17, at 4:30 p.m., with the Longhorns returning to Waco to finish the three-game series later on to close the regular season on May 5-6.
• Baylor is 19-29 in the all-time series with the Longhorns, including a 6-16 mark in Austin.
• Baylor has seen more success in recent years, winning three of the last four meetings and holding a 6-4 edge over the last 10 matchups between the programs.
• Baylor has won the season series over the Longhorns each of the last two seasons, snapping a streak of four years where Texas claimed the series win over BU.
• Neither program has pulled off a full, three-game sweep in the series, dating back to when the conference moved to the three-game series format in 2012. Baylor won the only two games played between the programs in 2016, with the third contest canceled due to weather and the teams unable to make up the date.
• Baylor is 7-1 vs. in-state rivals in 2018.
• BU is coming off of a three-game sweep at Oklahoma State, dropping all three games of a cold, windswept weekend in Stillwater.
• The Lady Bears were held winless in a three-game series for just the third time in program history, previously shutout in series with Oklahoma (2016, 2018) and now Oklahoma State.
• Baylor will look to right the ship approaching the halfway point in the Big 12 season, entering the week with a 3-6 mark in conference play. BU has carried a winning conference record in five-straight seasons and has won 10 or more Big 12 games each of the last seven years.
Shelby Friudenberg punched her way to the top of Baylor’s career leaderboard, drilling her 45th career home run in Sunday’s series finale at Texas Tech, passing Chelsi Lake (44, 2004-2007) as the program’s all-time record holder.
• Friudenberg will set her sights on another of Lake’s BU career records, now sitting at 178 career RBI, which trails Lake (184) by just six for the top spot.
• Friudenberg and Gia Rodoni swept the week nine Big 12 weekly honors, the first time in program history BU has swept the conference awards multiple times in the same season.
• After missing 11 games due to an ankle injury, Kyla Walker is back in the lineup, a huge boost for the Lady Bears as the program’s career batting average leader and the seventh-highest career hitting mark among all active student-athletes in Division I softball, the fifth-highest among non-freshmen.
Jessie Scroggins is making a strong case for consideration as the nation’s top centerfielder, holding the third-highest batting average in the nation (.491) entering the weekend, the highest among the country’s outfielders.
• Scroggins also leads the Big 12 in stolen bases per game (0.39) and ranks 10th nationally with 61 hits on the year, good for first among the conference’s hitters.
• The reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Scroggins saw a streak of 117 games and 169 consecutive successful fielding chances of errorless play end on a slip up in game three at Oklahoma State, committing her first defensive error since game three of the OU series in 2016 (April 10).
• Scroggins (250 career hits) holds in the No. 2 spot on Baylor’s career hits leaderboard, now three away from Lindsey Cargill (253, 2014-2017) for the top spot.
• A 2-for-3 performance by Scroggins against BYU on March 24 marked the 70th career multi-hit game of her career, passing Naomi Fitzgerald (69, 1998-2001) to set a new Baylor program record.
